Hotel Pro Forma’s Reumert-awarded, internationally acclaimed and beautiful performance NEOARCTIC is shown for a limited audience as a part of Aarhus 2017 – European Capital of Culture.
Humans as a natural force
NEOARCTIC is a poetically, musically and visually urging opera about the new geological age that we are in the midst of: The Anthropocene. An era that is characterized by the human being interfering with the ecosystem in an unprecedented extent. Humans have become a natural force that causes rapid, often unintended changes on our planet.
An open artistic statement
NEOARCTIC views the ruins and uprisings of the modern world. A world where new forms of life and landscapes arise and where constant changes are stitched together in a large complex symbiosis. The performance is neither romantic nor nostalgic. Based on 2.5 years of research, it provides an open artistic statement for a climate debate, which is otherwise characterized by scientific arguments.
Twelve breathtaking sceneries
Scenically, NEOARCTIC produces twelve landscapes of music, sound, light and image. Here, twelve singers find themselves in a world between material and intangible processes. They sing, whisper, shout, and conjure rhythmic repeated sound images, while melodic music and experimental electronic music gently weave together. Beautiful melodies arise and disappear. Breathtaking scenes ask: Where do we come from? Where are we going? How far can we go?
